Pixæl Works Site

As you may have noticed I don’t update my Pixæl Works site often. However, I’ve decided to update the layout a bit and add new content. Come check out the site and play some of my old visual novels, listen to my musical renditions from various videogames and anime, and among other things.

Speaking of which, I’ve created renditions of music from the anime Puella Magi Madoka Magica, as well as Infinite Stratos. I created them several months back, but I figured they’re worth sharing here.

Let me know if anything is broken in the site, especially regarding the layouts and such.

Pixæl Soft Gallery

Decided to create a new theme for the gallery; check it out here, and let me know if anything is broken.

Character Pages

And finally, I’ve updated the Characters page of the blog to reflect the current state of Memoria’s story. And made the layout a bit nicer, too. Again, let me know if anything is broken or messed up.

Hope you all enjoy the new stuff I posted. I need to get my sister to post new artworks, because I know you all want to see new artworks of the girls. ;)

Character Analysis – Aurelia

I already finished revising Aurelia’s route (like a week ago), and just wow. I’m amazed at what a character she is, compared to the other girls.

When I created Aurelia, one of the first things I did was come up with a name for her. I browsed baby name sites and I stumbled upon that name. It sounded so pretty the name stuck on her; it fit her appearance and personality well. The name, meaning “gold” in Latin, fits well with her “golden” personality.

What’s funny about her name is that sometimes I think Mikaela should swap her name with Aurelia, mostly because Mikaela has blonde hair. But it wouldn’t fit her well; sure, Mikaela has the looks, but she tends to be short-tempered, unlike Aurelia.

Aurelia happens to be one of my favorite characters to write about so far, because she represents the best of human nature. That is, she exhibits an aura of gentleness and kindness, and takes a lot to for her get angry. She enjoys helping others, and that makes her happy – that happiness has a lasting effect on her peers. It’s no wonder why she’s so popular among the student body – many guys dream about asking her out for a date, and girls look up to her as a role model.

Heck, she was elected president of the cooking club, despite not being very good at cooking, because of those traits. Most people would readily vote for her if she ran for student council president, but she feels it’s not for her; club president is good enough for her. In addition, she has the best grades in her class, and loves offering homework help to her peers.

She can be considered to have the most attractive looks out of all the girls on campus, but she’s rather humble about it.

Of course she has her flaws, and nobody in the story is perfect. Aurelia feels like she has to make everyone happy. But every time you make someone or a group happy, there is someone or a group that is going to be unhappy about whatever it is.  Some of her peers even make her go through hell because they are unhappy with her. Another flaw that is most obvious is her lack of cooking skill, despite being club president, as stated above. I’d like to list another flaw about her here but it’s kind of spoiler-ish. ^_~

No matter what wrong is done to her, Aurelia is always forgiving. She loves her family, her friends and the students around her, unconditionally.

I really need to update her profile on the Characters page… it feels so out of date. Same goes for the other characters.

Check out the previous posts if you don’t know what she looks like!

Long time, no update! Finished working on the music themes for the five heroines.

Hope you guys enjoy!

Updates on the story – Currently revising Aurelia’s route, and I’m hoping to get her done by the end of this month. Then it’s revising Julia’s route, which will prove to be a challenge.

Just in case some of you didn’t notice, you can follow me and my sister on twitter if you wish; there’s a follow button on the side menu of the blog.

Character Music Themes

Here are music themes for the five heroines. Remember Memoria Test 3? Because Memoria Tests 11-15 are more or less remixes of Test 3. Yeah, they’re incomplete for now, especially the notation, mastering, etc… but they’re complete enough to be listened to.

(for some reason, the gallery keeps messing with the filenames, when it comes to the ‘, (, and ) characters.)

If any of you guys played the VN “With Ribbon,” then you might notice I’ve taken elements from its music and appropriated it; most obvious in Aurelia’s music, and to an extent Julia’s.

Hope you guys enjoy!

Story and Music Goodness

Memoria’s story is going rather well. I’ve already started revising the first semester. As always, added, removed, and reworded details. The revising is with keeping Aurelia’s details in mind, and to an extent Julia’s. Those two needed the most revisions in the first semester, which will reflect in their respective routes.  Hence why I haven’t started revising their routes yet, but revising the first semester first.

I’m already done revising Mikaela, Anna, and Tristina’s routes long ago, and they don’t need much revising in the first semester. Of course they might need further looking into, might have missed something.

Oh and as a bonus, I’ve improved on Memoria Test 7 a bit. Major changes include: a piano in the background, chorus effects (subtle), some mastering, and added more power to the drums (they sounded weak in the first version). Posted both versions for comparison. Enjoy!

My younger sister should be posting new artworks soon, probably within the next week. Look forward to them because they’re in new outfits!

Calm and Happy Memoria Music

As promised, here’s more possible music for Memoria!

Both are still a work in progress, though. For 5 I haven’t completed the ending (from 1 minute on it’s just a clarinet), while 7 is mostly complete, just need to add some embellishments. Most of my inspiration for those themes were from the VN, With Ribbon‘s music.

Why do I name my music “Memoria Test 5″ and such? For the most part I’m experimenting. Also, I’m kind of lazy to come up with official names for them at the moment. =P I do have Memoria Tests 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6; might post them later (already posted #3).  I’ve posted 3, 5, and 7 because they were worked on more than the others.

Reason (the music software) is awesome.

Story Updates – Anna + Tristina + Others

I apologize for the lack of updates from me (Ryne)! I did get a substantial amount of story and music done.

For the past months, been working on Anna and Tristina’s stories a bit, which required quite a bit of rewrites and restructuring. Reading them over and over again made me think – I must have been crazy to put that in there. Instead of making things blatantly obvious, I made things a bit more subtle. Intervals between days were condensed. Removed strange bits of story. And as always, made sure things made sense.

Reading over Tristina’s story, the last part seemed too extreme. I softened it to make it a bit more realistic. Also, added a day on her route as a day less is not going to work. I’m nearly done revising her (Anna is already done).

So far, out of all the girls I like Anna the most (story-wise).

The Characters page needs an update, to reflect the revisions (and among other things). Heck, parts of it don’t even make sense (at least for me)! For example, the page states that Glenn is overprotective of his daughter, Mikaela. But I made him more supportive of his daughter’s actions, considering his occasional screentime in the game.

One last thing – I will be posting more music next week!

Memoria Music – Possible Theme

Aside from writing Memoria’s story, I’m trying my hands at creating Memoria’s music.

To be honest, I’m not exactly great at creating music. I did take some music classes during my time in college, including music theory and using audio and music software (including Reason and Pro Tools), and I can safely say that I know how to use the tools I’ve been given. The main issue I have with music creation is coming up with a melody – that’s the hardest part. And I’m not exactly great at mastering.

It helps if you listen to other music; in Memoria’s case, listen to various visual novel music. I’m having my eyes (or ears) on the VN With Ribbon’s music – the music’s absolutely beautiful, IMO; if Memoria had With Ribbon’s music it’d fit very well. Another VN, Lover Able, has some nice music too. (play the trial versions to hear for yourself.) So… Memoria’s music will most likely be influenced by those two VN’s music.

Here’s a possible theme song for Memoria. Not necessarily a tune influenced by said VNs, though they did influence me with the instrumentation. Created with Reason, and in B-flat major; took at least a week or two to create.

(side note – While playing With Ribbon, I’ve noticed there’s a heroine (left girl) who strongly reminds me of Aurelia. Her voice, demeanor, hair color and length, and large breast size. I looooove how said heroine’s hair curls at the ends, maybe I should get my sister to curl Aurelia’s hair like that? Yeah, I have a habit of comparing Memoria characters to other anime characters. ^.^)

Story Revision Progress – Mikaela and Anna

Been a while since I last posted, eh? Been busy revising Mikaela and Anna’s routes.

For Mikaela, I adjusted the day structure of her route. On the first draft I’ve noticed that her days are spread out too much, so I condensed it, removing about a month for her. It makes you wonder – what happened in between those days? Also, removed a few days of her route, as I feel they’re not necessary. Otherwise, just added/removed details and some scenes.

Anna’s route is similar to Mikaela’s as I’ve condensed her route a bit and added/removed details and some scenes . However, she required the most revisions so far. Especially for the last three days of her route; I’m currently rewriting them, and nearly done. Those days parody one of my favorite anime series; the first draft made it blatantly obvious that it’s from that anime. So I rewritten those days and made subtle references to it, as well as making it fit within the context of the theme of Anna’s route (and to an extent, the overall theme of the story). It’s working quite well.

After I’m done revising Anna’s route, I have Tristina, then Aurelia, and then Julia’s. When I get to fixing up Aurelia, I’m going to fix up part one of the story as well (aka the first semester); Aurelia has some major changes in that part. I’ve already reflected the changes in Mikaela and Anna’s routes, and will adjust Tristina and Julia’s accordingly. (I outlined what needs changing for Aurelia.)

BTW, I tried my hands at composing some music for Memoria. Might post it next week. ^_~

(As I’m writing this, I find it surprising that Firefox’s spellchecker flagged “Anna’s” as misspelled, while “Mikaela’s” is not flagged.)

Thinking about Julia

Writing Julia’s route was… intense. Finished outlining her route.

I’ve written sooooo much about her compared to the other girls, which took me a little more than a month outlining. For the other girls, it took me at least a month to outline each of them, but with Julia a little more time was needed. Because Julia is Memoria’s main heroine.

There is more emphasis on her thoughts and feelings, as well as the male protagonist’s feelings compared to other routes. This route is overflowing with intense emotions… I don’t know about you, but there’s a good chance of getting teary. I certainly did.

By the way… there is one scene in Julia’s route that is… rather steamy (no H though). Nevertheless, it’s very sweet reading it over and over again; it makes you think about your significant other (whether s/he be in the past, present, or future).

Okay, now that I’ve finished outlining all five girl’s routes, I’m going to proofread them, and make any necessary changes. After that, I’m going to have others read them, and then I’m going to write Memoria’s script.

To end this post… Julia is so short and cute. It would be nice if someone could make a plushie of her. And of other girls for that matter. ^_^
