Hey folks, I’m happy to announce that Café Memoria is now on Itch!

Download it here!

This is the original version of Café Memoria released back on 2015/06/26 meaning it’s not a remaster, just simply a re-release – let me know if you have any problems running it (particularly for Mac users – let me know if any of you use an Apple Silicon-based Mac and have problems)! Please note the downloads at the PixælSoft site have been removed and are only available on Itch going forward. I will migrate downloads of my other VNs to Itch in the future! And possibly have them finally hosted on Steam as well – in the past I’ve been pretty hesitant about uploading my projects there… but I’ve been mulling it over the past several months.

In the meantime, please enjoy Café Memoria and have Anna and her waitstaff serve you once more!

PS: To those who want a status update on Dating Sim! Luna’s Lovely Summer: Still working on it! I know things are progressing slowly with this project, but please bear with me. I’ve been juggling between this Café Memoria update, DSLLS, as well as my next VN project (and of course my day job).

New Artist to the Rescue

It’s been a little over a month since my former artist Arctic Fox had stepped down – I think I adapted well. It’s easy to throw in the towel after that huge setback, but my motivation to finish this project was much stronger, formulating an emergency plan after her resignation. I must admit, I had my reservations about having a replacement artist trying to mimic Arctic Fox’s style for the remaining two CGs of DSLLS, out of fear of the chance that the styles will clash, and heavily leaned on redoing all the artworks from scratch and thus delaying the game for at least a year.

But based on the replies from my Twitter (X), the general conscientious was to hire a skilled artist to finish the remaining CGs, especially considering the project was (and still is) late in development. And so, made a recruitment post late last month, had it run for a week, and selected an artist.

The result?

Folks, I want you to meet Cele (his tumblr here), who is currently working on the remaining CGs of Dating Sim! Luna’s Lovely Summer. 🙂 I am highly impressed at his skill in mimicking Arctic Fox’s style – the outlines, coloring style, shading, eyes and whatnot… I couldn’t be any happier.

Here’s Arctic Fox’s version for comparison (right before she resigned):

With my new artist in tow, the end of development is on the horizon; I roughly estimate a December 2023 / January 2024 release date. Once the remaining artworks are finished, the game will go through beta testing – I will test it myself, but I’m also planning a closed beta. Oh, and there’s marketing I have to consider – not gonna lie but I’m absolutely terrible at marketing my games, but considering this is a commercial project and I only have one shot at release… it’s something I must do – currently reading some articles on it.

A summer of love

Thought I’d share some progress on that CG that is being worked on since last month; it’s now colored!

Aww how romantic, isn’t it? This is just one image out of five in this CG set, there will be some changes in the final version. Just what are the circumstances that lead to a surprise kiss for Luna? ^^

With the way how things are progressing, it’s definitely going to be a while until I get the rest of the CGs done. I don’t really fancy the thought of releasing a summer-themed VN around winter / Christmas, but if it comes to that, then so be it, ahaha. Delays here and there really mess with the tentative release schedule, but of course, there are circumstances beyond my control. Yeah, I’m still working on my next visual novel in the meantime, gathering references and editing the script and such. Slow and steady wins the race applies here, I guess?

Oh, vote for the outfit in my next VN!

So close yet so far

We’re getting ever-so-close to the end of development of DSLLS! But unfortunately, that doesn’t mean everything’s going to go smoothly from here on out. As you might’ve read in my previous posts, it’s mostly refining the game’s code and waiting for the game’s remaining event CGs to be completed. With the latter, I received a sketch of the first of the last two CGs about three weeks ago. Here’s a preview of what’s to come:

If you’ve been following my Twitter you might be aware that my artist had seemingly gone AWOL for the past three or so weeks, but now she has responded to my message as I type this. Not gonna lie, it sucks to have one of your team members seemingly disappear when development is getting closer and closer to the end. I place a lot of emphasis on communication, expecting others to let me know if something comes up ahead of time (and vice versa)… but it’s completely understandable if there’s something that’s preventing them from sending out a message.

So yeah, as I wait for artwork updates for DSLLS, I’ll work on my next VN some more (aka editing and gathering art references) as well as work on some other side projects. Wait, side projects? Yeah, lately I’ve been working with another fellow VN dev with an OC I’ve designed for his project, definitely can’t wait to show artworks of her and the said project in question!

BTW, what do you all think about the new DSLLS voiced demo I released last month?

Love from Luna

We’re starting to pick up the pace here in terms of CG artwork progress! This time, Luna forgives you for what happened in the past two months and invites you to eat out with her at an Italian restaurant ^.^ Doesn’t the garlic bread look delicious?

This is just one of the images in this CG set, and my artist is working on the rest of the set as we speak. After that’s completed it’s just two CG sets left! As I’m hoping to release this project around late summer to mid autumn, again it’s mostly just cleaning up / refining the game’s code as I wait for the completion of said CG sets. By the way, would you like me to release an updated demo of DSLLS with voice-overs added? The current version of the demo is unvoiced as it was released before recording, but now that everything’s recorded I’m considering creating an updated demo with said voices (likely next month, I will announce on my Twitter beforehand).

As a side note: the rough script for my next VN, Dating Sim! (insert name here)’s Autumn is completed! Right now I’m going through one more read-through and then I’ll send it off to a writer / editor. From outlining the story to completing a rough draft of the script, that took me like… ~9 months? The story isn’t exactly huge (like ~26k words) and I know I could’ve done that in a shorter period of time, but I do have to finish developing DSLLS, alongside with my work schedule. I really can’t wait to have artworks started on this autumn project 🙂
