AWCG v2.0 Release Date Announcement

Heya folks! As you might have known from my Twitter and previous posts, I’ve been reworking my Christmas VN the past month. Most notably changing up the visuals (BGs and GUI) and of course adding voice acting. And now I’ve made enough progress to show off these changes!

I’ve hired Milena Olivson to do the game’s BGs and she’s done a wonderful job with them! Although she works pretty quick, she doesn’t sacrifice quality at the same time. A huge improvement over using filtered photographs as BGs.

Oh, and of course I’d like to introduce Natalia’s voice actress – Katelyn Hamilton! She gave Natalia the personality I was looking for, with her outgoing and cheerful voice. I’ve updated AWCG’s site to include voice samples if you want to listen. 🙂

With that out of the way, I’d like to say I’m aiming to release v2.0 of “All I Want for Christmas is a Girlfriend” on December 20, 2019. Most of the things I’ve wanted to update have been implemented, but I don’t want to rush things. The GUI needs a bit more work, and of course debug, debug, debug. Aside from that, I hope you look forward to Natalia bringing you some more holiday cheer this season!

I released this VN last year, but without any voice acting. I’m in the process of reworking this project, hoping to improve the visuals (mainly BGs and some GUI), and of course seeing Natalia’s personality come to life!

  • This is a non-commercial project.
  • Budget: ~$30, negotiable. Payment via PayPal.
  • Deadline: While this is a short VN, everything will need to be completed within a month (last week of November / the 30th). I’m aiming to re-release this project about a week before Christmas this year (week of December 16).
  • Format: .wav – to allow for post-processing.
  • Motivation, reliability, proactivity: very important

Ryne’s demo days of summer

Wow, I can’t believe it’s been at least a month since I released the CMD demo. I hope you all enjoyed it 🙂 No stopping there, because I have more art to share (pun unintended) – Ryne’s sprite art is finally completed!

As always, click to view larger. The protagonist of the game who receives a summer discount card from Anna, because he helps her so much with her problems (especially with school). Speaking of which, while he does help the girls with the problems they face, he does have some problems of his own. Namely, the pressures of school, and his anxiety when it comes to Julia. While not touched upon in the demo, one of his hobbies include working with computers, and will gladly fix any malfunctioning computer.

BTW, I updated CMD’s site to include images in his profile, in case you want to check it out.

Apologies if I didn’t have his sprite in the demo (time constraints). But if I decide to make some more demo versions, then yeah he’ll definitely be in it!

Aside from that, we’re nearing 10 years of running PixaelSoft / Project Memoria (on September 27)! Has it really been that long since then? I hope to show something nice next month, to celebrate. But yeah I hope you guys still stick around!

It’s almost as if she’s the poster girl for Café Memoria! Don’t forget how delicious that parfait looks, don’t you want to be served one by her? A sweet dessert served by a sweet girl like Aurelia. ^_^

Alright, I might have posted this a bit early by a week (unlike posting around last week of the month). But I want to focus my energy putting the finishing touches on CMD’s site as I plan to open it next month.

Does this mean a CMD demo release is coming soon?!

Tristina’s April in the cafe

Morning folks! To those who celebrate it, hope your Easter was a great one 🙂 This month, I have more title artwork to share with you, this time of Tristina!

Click to view larger. Tristina may not look as dynamic like the other girls, but she’s the type who doesn’t like to attract too much attention – though if you played the first Café Memoria then she does have another side that may inadvertently attract said attention.

But otherwise, she’s the type who keeps to herself, no? I guess that’s kind of a good thing on calm April days, considering March and February was full of rainy weather (at least where I live).

Tristina aside, I’ve been working all this month on CMD’s site. Most of it is cleaning up code, but I ran into a bit of a roadblock when it came to centering / spacing the navigation buttons evenly. A bit of a lesson learned here:

  1. Zero out margins and padding if things don’t look aligned evenly.
  2. Image buttons with odd-numbered width and/or height can make things uneven.
  3. Flexbox is your friend, when margins and floats fail you.

I will be posting a demo release date in the coming months, in conjunction with the site’s opening. Stay tuned!

Mikaela’s spring greens

Hello once again, folks! Today, I’ll be sharing some title artwork of Mikaela! Sorry, no birthday wishes for her (unlike the past two months), as her b-day is on December. (Please Mikaela, don’t go all tsun-tsun on me!)

Of course, click to view larger; she’s showing quite a bit of personality here! She has the potential to be a nice waitress, right? But she’s the type to lose patience easily, especially when it comes to rude customers, or when they take slow to order and are indecisive. In fact, working in the café is kind of a test for her. She can act tsundere all she wants towards her friends, but Elena is there to keep her in check, making sure she doesn’t blow up at the guests.

Alright, I think since the project is progressing very nicely the past months, it might be safe to say that a demo will be released in the coming months (I’m thinking around the summer). I’ve resumed working on the site (after not touching it since 2017, ahaha), and will open it maybe a few months prior to demo release. Code needs quite a bit of cleaning up x_x

Speaking of cleaning up, I really need to upgrade CMD’s Ren’Py version… it’s on 7.0 and we’re like, what, on 7.2.1. I have to admit the game’s code is a mess, with a bunch of legacy code from old Ren’Py versions and workarounds. Maybe I’ll rework it from scratch after demo release – no that doesn’t mean I’m scrapping the whole project from the ground up, just the more, uh, technical aspects of it. 😉

What’s this?! Another birthday post? Because Julia’s birthday is coming up (Feb 27), I’ll be sharing more title artwork of her 🙂

Click to view larger; what do you guys think? I really like her inviting pose as she brings you to your table. You can tell from her expression that she really loves her job! She comes in to work every day with a lovely and bright smile on her face. Her job coincides with her love for cooking, and is likely to consider making a career in the restaurant business.

As usual, a progress report on the project! More artworks are being worked on, and of course more revisions to the script. As for progress on the demo, script-wise I just finished one of Anna’s hangout days, and Mikaela’s day will be worked on soon. Otherwise, it’s just a matter of adding in the title and food artworks, making finishing touches, and whatnot.

…shoot, I kinda neglected the site for the project! I checked my files for it and last modified… July 2017. Better haul rear and update it >.<

Hey guys! It’s Anna’s birthday this month, so let’s celebrate the beginning of the new year with new title artwork of her! Okay, well I might be a little late celebrating (her bday is the 21st), but it’s okay!

Click to view larger. How do you guys like her dynamic, yet somewhat flirty pose? I think that considering her shy and insecure personality, it’s her way of forcing herself to be more open and outgoing not only towards her customers, but to everyone else, including her friends. Of course that doesn’t stop her from being so clumsy and tripping, making her drop all the food and losing confidence.

A great way to seeing her other side, right? 😉 More title artworks of the other girls soon to come!

Aside from that, now that the holidays are over and after releasing my Christmas VN, it’s now back to work on CMD. I’m still rewriting sections of the script, but hopefully a demo will be out this year! There are still plans for releasing smaller projects if time persists.

Hey folks! It’s my birthday today, so I’m sharing some significant progress of Café Memoria Deux!

Click to view larger. Here’s a preview of an in-game demo scene, in its full glory with sprites and BGs! I’ve spent the past weeks copying the script to Ren’Py code, in particular the first in-game day. It’s mostly done, I just need to do a run-through making sure all the script is there, some debugging / improvements, and of course adding in the food artworks. Then I have to do the second day, as well as hangout days exclusive to Anna and Mikaela (and waiting on some title artworks, ahaha).

Also, Ryne’s sprite artwork has not been done yet and therefore will not be in the upcoming demo, as well as some rating stuff (that could change though). But nevertheless we’re inching closer towards a demo release! I’ll announce it once I feel confident about setting a definite date.

For those wondering, Mikaela and Jacob are not sister and brother! They kind of look like it, yeah, but they’re not related. Though, I’m sure Mikaela would dread having a brother like Jacob; saying he’ll piss her off on days end is an understatement.

Now, I’m going to take the rest of the day off and celebrate my birthday with family. Work will resume tomorrow! In the meantime, look forward to more significant progress in the coming months!

Alright, it’s time to reveal one of three of Café Memoria Deux’s male characters this time. Let’s meet Jacob Alessia 🙂

Click to view larger, as always. Jacob is Ryne’s friend, and is perhaps the comic relief of the story. He can be quite annoying, and especially gets on Mikaela and Tristina’s nerves the most. He enjoys pushing Mikaela’s buttons because he thinks it’s funny watching her get pissed off. And Tristina is especially the constant subject of his harassment, having eyes for her, but she expresses strong disinterest. But he keeps trying despite not getting the message.

How do you think he turned out? Let me know!

As far as other things go, I’m still reworking the script, and of course working on the game’s engine / Ren’Py.  Mostly on the latter, though, as I’ve been trying out Ren’Py 7’s layered images and I must say it’s an awesome feature! While I do love it, it’s a very tedious process making sure the sprites’ facial expressions are pixel-perfect, positioned as they were when my artist sent them to me. We’re talking about ~80+ expressions between 6+ sprites, plus extras like sweatdrops, anger veins, and the like (and Julia’s removable glasses 😮 ).

That should be it for now. We’re really picking up the pace here, right? Hopefully I’ll have something nice next month!
